This is a map showing the location of the North Beach (Powell Street) Cemetery. It was located around Powell, Filbert and Greenwich Streets which is near by a playground, pool and library today.
This was by no means an official or recognized cemetery. The land belonged to an unamused citizen who had to watch as up to 900 bodies were deposited there from 1846 to 1850. It was the city's major burial ground, "unofficially", until they were mainly moved to the "Official" Yerba Buena Cemetery.
